I decided that I didn’t want to experience that, so I made up my mind to invest in a 0°F sleeping bag.
After conducting extensive research, I settled on the Anvil Horn Sleeping Bag: 0°F Down. Even though the regular size would have fit me perfectly and been lighter and more compact, I opted for the longest version available. This extra length would be ideal for storing gear at the bottom of the sleeping bag, such as camera gear and batteries, especially in extreme cold conditions. Additionally, I would keep my next day’s riding clothes in the bag, so I have something warm to grab in the morning along with my water.
I use this sleeping bag throughout the year, including during the summer, thanks to its unique design. Instead of having insulation underneath, it features a sheet that fits over my air pad. Essentially, it’s a backless sleeping bag, similar to a top quilt. During the summer, I simply sleep on the sheet as it can get hot. However, if I feel cold around 4 am, I can throw the sleeping bag over me like a blanket, without zipping it up and usually leaving my feet outside. I really appreciate this design, especially when it’s paired with the Big Agnes Air Core pad. It’s known as the “all-in-one sleep system,” and it feels like sleeping in a bed at night.
